Live Duval Street Coming to you from Sloppy Joe's

Live Duval Street Cam 1: The Corner of Duval and Greene

Cam 1 is the street view. The camera hangs under the awning at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, 201 Duval Street, and looks along the sidewalk and out across the intersection of Duval and Greene.

What’s in the frame

  • Foreground: the covered sidewalk in front of Sloppy Joe’s, where people stop to check the band schedule, wait for friends or get out of the sun.
  • Middle: the intersection itself. Cars share it with bicycles, scooters, golf carts and pedicabs.
  • Far side: the opposite corner, with its street lamps, bike racks and shopfronts.
  • Top left: the date and local time. Key West is on Eastern Time.

A day on this corner

Before 9 a.m. The street belongs to delivery trucks, street sweepers and people on bicycles heading to work. Roosters wander through. If you only know Duval Street at night, this is the hour that surprises people.

9 a.m. to mid-afternoon. The sidewalks fill with visitors working their way down from the Gulf end of the street. The crowd is noticeably thicker on days when a cruise ship is in port.

Late afternoon. About two hours before sunset the flow reverses, as people head back toward Mallory Square for the Sunset Celebration. Sunset in Key West comes at about 5:40 p.m. in late November and early December, and about 8:20 p.m. in late June and early July.

Evening to 4 a.m. This is what most people tune in for. The lights come on, music carries out of the open doors, and the corner stays crowded well past midnight. Many Key West bars are licensed to serve until 4 a.m.

4 a.m. to dawn. The quietest stretch of the day, and the best time to see the street empty.

Why the picture changes

  • Weather. Summer afternoons bring short, heavy showers. You will see the sidewalk empty in seconds and fill again ten minutes later. Monthly averages are on our Key West weather page.
  • Picture quality. The player adjusts to your connection, up to 720p. If the image looks soft, it usually sharpens after a few seconds.
  • A short video first. Sponsors sometimes run a brief clip before the live picture starts.
  • Offline message. The camera occasionally goes down for maintenance or during a storm. Refresh the page after a minute or two.
